Top five outdated kitchen designs

Was your kitchen designed by a kitchen design dinosaur? Avoid these top five outdated kitchen design features.

Dinosaur representing outdated kitchen

1. Double Bowl Sink

Double bowl sinks are outdated and a waste of space. A large single bowl sink allows for large trays and is far more useful. The double bowl sink is a holdover from times before energy efficient dishwashers. The only exception to this would be in a kosher kitchen.

2. Soffits over cabinets

Soffits (sometimes called bulkheads) are from a time when builders wanted to save money and not pay for higher cabinets and crown moldings. Today, all well designed kitchens eliminate soffits and bring cabinetry and moldings all the way up to either the ceiling or a tray ceiling.

3. Outdated Knick knack shelves

Small shelves popular in the 1980’s would hold tchotchkes like Hummels and other bric-a-brac. They are so outdated and out of style that Main Line Kitchen Design emphatically discourages them in any design.

4. Arched wall cabinet door style

This door style was popular in the 1990’s. However, it is so unpopular today that the out of date style makes any kitchen renovation using it just about valueless. See an example of the door style in the video from number 5.

5. Diagonal sink base
