What kitchen designers and Picasso have in common.

The following Picasso story applies to kitchen designers, too.

Picasso Napkin Art

Picasso was at a Paris market when an admirer approached and asked if he could do a quick sketch on a paper napkin for her.

Picasso politely agreed, promptly created a drawing, and handed back the napkin — but not before asking for a million Francs.

The lady was shocked: “How can you ask for so much? It took you five minutes to draw this!”

“No”, Picasso replied, “It took me 40 years to draw this in five minutes.”

Becoming even just good kitchen designers requires talent and many years of experience.

As my highly regarded industry colleague says in the funny video below
“Everyone needs a kitchen designer, we just have to convince them, that they need us.”

There are also the customers who don’t understand that taking a design created by one kitchen designer to purchase their cabinetry elsewhere is actually theft, and will often lead to getting inferior designs and products.

It is stealing because designs require hours or measuring, designing and meetings that don’t generate revenue until cabinets are purchased. If, instead, someone else sells the cabinets, they are making money without investing time with the customer.

The customer will also be likely to get inferior designs and products for two reasons:

1) Homeowners are rarely offered the same products by different kitchen designers.
Accordingly, they are unknowingly comparing “apples to bananas” and actually
getting overcharged by someone offering alternative pricing.
2) There is only one way to describe a kitchen designer or builder who is willing to price and sell cabinetry for a design done by another company. Reputable companies do not want to deal with these requests. This Blog contains some additional perspective.

Main Line Kitchen Designers do not charge large design deposits because our cabinetry prices are some of the best in the industry.

Customers would actually be foolish to steal kitchen designs and NOT buy their cabinetry from us. Because of this, we worry less than other cabinet dealers about people working extensively with us and then buying cabinets elsewhere. However, this doesn’t stop the occasional “Knowbetta” from doing exactly that.

When they do, we shake our heads, understanding that we were probably better off not selling a kitchen to someone so unappreciative and unethical.

Here’s an account we have previously published about a “Knowbetta” family-READ HERE

Not understanding the value of a good kitchen designer almost assures that people spend their budget ineffectively.

We hope you will let us help you make “Smart” decisions. And as always . . .

Bon Appetit!
